Frequently Asked Questions

Laser Hair Removal

How does Laser Hair removal work?

Laser Hair Removal works by pulsing a beam of light that it is emitted undergoing the skin. The light energy passes harmlessly through the skin, but is absorbed by the pigment in the hair (melanin), which disables the hair follicle and impairs its ability to grow.

Hair has three stages in its growth cycle, and the laser disables the hair only on the active growth stage (Anagen) at the time of treatment. Because not all hair is in the same stage of growth during treatment, a series of treatments are required to disable all the hair follicles in an area.

Is the laser treatment painful?

While some areas of the body are more sensitive than others, most patients report manageable discomfort. For sensitive patients, anesthetic creams can be applied prior to treatment. The Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD), attached to the laser, sprays cryogen onto the skin with each laser pulse to help cool and lessen the heat sting sensation. This system minimizes the level of discomfort during treatment.

What precautions should I take before my treatment?

Avoid the sun exposure before and after treatment or until your practitioner allows it. You must avoid electrolysis, plucking or waxing hair for 2 weeks prior to treatment. If you have had a history of herpes, antiviral therapy may be prescribed before and during your laser treatments to avoid any breakouts.

What should I expect after my treatment?

Within several minutes of the treatment, the treated area will be come slightly red and swollen. This reaction subsides, and within a few hours the area returns to normal. Since the laser does not burn or cut the skin in any way, you can return to your normal activities immediately.

Laser Skin Care

What is Laser Skin Tightening?

Laser Skin Tightening is a series of laser treatments using the Candela Gentle Yag laser. These treatments are designed to stimulate dermal collagen production and regeneration of damaged skin cells. The single-wavelength light energy produced by the laser, targets fibroblasts in the dermis which produce new collagen in response to laser energy. Increased turnover of skin cells is also stimulated, helping to regenerate and replace damaged cells.

How does the Laser Skin Tightening treatment work?

The laser treatment tightens the skin by transferring heat to the deepest layers of the skin. The non-ablative laser creates thermal injury below the epidermis resulting in a healing response to the upper dermis. This process then causes the dwelling fibroblasts to stimulate the precursors of collagen, elastic, and other proteins. By activating enough of your own collagen source, wrinkles and sagging skin can diminish within weeks after the treatment.

How many treatments do I need?

Clinical studies suggest that 4-6 treatments spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart in most cases will produce a significant increase in dermal collagen, remodeling of dermal matrix components, and a resulting improvement in overall skin tone and vitality.

How long will the results last?

The new dermal collagen that is produced becomes part of the structure of the treated skin, and thus Laser Skin Tightening can produce improvements in skin which lasts for years. Skin tightening is so powerful that new collagen production can continue several months after the treatment. Most people report improvement immediately, with even more dramatic results weeks later. New collagen growth results in continued skin tightening and the development of a more youthful complexion with fewer lines, folds, and looseness of the skin. Continued exposure to the damaging ultraviolet rays of the sun will result in breakdown of both existing and new collagen over time, so it is very important to protect your results by limiting sun exposure, using a high-SPF sun block, and maintaining a healthy and scientifically sound skin care regimen.

Will I need time to recouperate after my Laser Skin Tightening treatments?

Laser skin tightening treatments are quite comfortable and do not require any anesthesia or downtime. Most clients resume daily activities immediately following treatment. Sun-tanning and skin exfoliation treatments should be avoided before and after treatments.

Is Laser Skin tightening effective for both the face and body?

Yes. LST can be used to treat any part of the body that may benefit from softer, smoother skin quality, wrinkle reduction, improvement of pore size and texture, or elimination of acne scars. The GentleYAG can provide beautiful firm skin on the face, neck, chest, upper arms, legs and other body areas with no downtime and without the need for potentially dangerous numbing creams.

Microdermabrasion

How do I know if microdermobrasion is right for me?

Microdermobrasion treatments are right for anyone that has sun damaged skin, fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, acne scaring and hyper pigmentation.

What should I expect after my treatment?

A few minutes after this procedure, light redness can appear, but will disappear soon after. Immediately after the procedure, the skin will be cleaned, toned and nourished with our special product line according to your needs.

How often are treatments done?

Because microdermobrasion is a non-invasive procedure, the skin’s improvement is gradual, with dramatic effects occurring over a period of time. A single microdermabrasion treatment will brighten and refine the skin, while 6-12 treatments are recommended for those wanting to completely rejuvenate their complexion.
